15 Ovarian Cancer Tips
Tip 1 -
When ovarian cancer is in its early stage, the woman may not experience symptoms. It is important that
any woman who experiences any signs or symptoms of anything going on that is not of a normal nature
should report the signs and symptoms to her doctor.
Tip 2 -
There is one common clue that seems to direct doctors to ovarian cancer investigation. That is
that the symptoms tend to worsen as opposed to digestive disorders where the same symptoms tend
to come and go, or they are present only after eating certain foods or in certain situations.
Women who have ovarian cancer usually experience constant and gradually worsening symptoms.
Tip 3 -
Find time everyday to be good to you. Eat balanced nutritious meals. Take time to relax and rest.
Relieve stress and fatigue by learning relaxation exercises. Cut back on any unnecessary time
commitments and schedule in rest periods each day to help renew your body and spirit. These are some
of the best tips I can give you, if you have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Tip 4 -
Blood tests are used to measure kidney and liver function and also to look for certain blood
cells and for a substance called CA-125. This substance, a protein, is higher in women who have
ovarian cancer, so it is a reliable marker, if the CA-125 comes back high.
Tip 5 -
A colonoscopy is a test used to look inside of the colon and is usually used to look for
colon cancer. It may be used if the doctor suspects that the ovarian cancer has spread into the abdomen.
It is necessary to clean out your colon first before having this test, so laxatives are prescribed for
the individual to take prior to the test date. Sedation is given because the tube being passed into
your colon can be uncomfortable for the individual having the test.
Tip 6 -
If you are lucky enough to live in an area that offers cancer screening then take up the offer.
Cancer caught early is easier to treat.
Tip 7 -
Ignorance is a risk factor for ovarian cancer. Women who do not take the time to become knowledgeable
about their bodies and the health threats that exist for them, are more likely to be unaware of
symptoms and not seek medical attention as soon as they should. Become knowledgeable about symptoms
to look for and the need for annual female gynecological health exams.
Tip 8 -
Women over age 55 have a higher risk of developing ovarian cancer. Doubly so, if they never had any
children.
Tip 9 -
With each pregnancy that a woman has, she reduces her risk for ovarian cancer. Breast-feeding a child
for more than one year also reduces your risk for ovarian cancer.
Tip 10 -
Stress is a contributing factor when it comes to getting ovarian cancer. Learning to cope with stress
is therefore a way to reduce the risk for ovarian cancer.
Tip 11 -
Meditation, massage and other therapies that relax tense muscles and let the mind escape the
daily stress are also great choices, if you are worried about ovarian cancer.
Tip 12 -
If you receive a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, you may be referred to a gynecologic oncologist or a
medical oncologist.
Tip 13 -
Because ovarian cancer is the most deadliest of cancers due to the fact that symptoms often go
unnoticed until the cancer is advanced, means that it is really important for individuals to
check out any unusual abdominal symptoms they experience.
Tip 14 -
A hysterectomy for ovarian cancer is when the uterus is removed as a treatment for the cancer.
Tip 15 -
The signs and symptoms for ovarian cancer are nonspecific and are the same symptoms that other
conditions and diseases have associated with them. These other conditions and diseases that have the
same symptoms and signs as ovarian cancer are digestive and bladder disorders. Mis-diagnosis of these
other conditions and diseases is not uncommon before a woman finally receives the true diagnosis
of ovarian cancer.
